Edwards Syndrome

(also known as Trisomy 18. T18).

This is the second most common multiple malformation syndrome in humans after Down syndrome with an incidence of 0.03% of births.

Edwards syndrome is caused by the inheritance of an additional chromosome number 18 and the risk of a mother having a child with Edwards syndrome increases with advancing age.

The majority of babies with Edwards syndrome are stillborn and those few that are live born have a very short life expentancy.
